And Suddenly You Know

Two years ago, when we were first setting out to “refresh” our RNDM Canada website, we considered including a blog in the new version – and promptly rejected the idea.

However, as we worked on the website revisions, the possibilities of a blog page periodically tugged at us. And then:

“… suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” (Meister Eckhart)1

And suddenly we did know that we would try a blog. We reasoned that if we could find enough writers, it would not be a burden for any one of us to post something new on a regular basis.  When we cast that request out to Sisters and friends who we knew “did some writing”, we were overjoyed that both “regular writers”, and “occasional writers” heard the call of possibility and were willing to commit to writing something on a regular or occasional basis. We believe this will enable an eclectic range of perspectives and insights.

We became energized thinking of this blog as a “platform”, from which we could both share reflections and invite conversations with a potentially large public.

So today, with the support of “women who write” and encouragement from many others, we launch our RNDM Canada blog. We do so on the edge of Spring Equinox – a season of change caused by planet earth being slightly tilted on its axis as it travels around the Sun. And changing its course. This historical time of our lives is:

      • a time of a two year (plus) Covid-19 pandemic
      • a time of brutal war in Ukraine
      • a time of further destabilization of a “rules based world order”
      • a time of polarization and seeming disregard for the common good
      • a time of worsening climate crisis

This is a time when I also feel slightly tilted on my axis as much of what I know and love is disrupted or destroyed. This kind of time can lead to dark places.

So I take heart from a quote I recently received:

“In a time of destruction, create something: a poem, a parade, a community, a school, a vow, a moral principle; one peaceful moment.”2

So we are creating a blog – which we are launching today.

Every Monday there will be a new reflection that we hope you will find interesting, amusing, insightful, timely – or any combination of the above! With time, we will have more than one post each week. We hope these posts will be engaging to readers, and inspire you to also write. Send us a possible article, write something in the comments. “Trust the magic of beginnings”.

Here we go!

1 I do not have a reference for this quote. I first heard Mathew Fox voice it, and am certain he quotes it in one of his many works. An internet search shows it as widely attributed to Eckhart, but without citation.

What a delight I am having this morning in visiting your blog page. Yes indeed, ‘in a time of destruction’ as we witness the horrors taking place in Ukraine, it is heart warming for me to read the blog posts and the encouragement for this new venture.

Congratulations sister Veronica for the creative idea and this surprising blog! On the feast of the Annunciation, I thought of you all and we are united in prayers, especially for the peace in Ukraine. It is a time of HOPE and TRUST as well.

Just been able to access the ‘newness’ – the blog component of your Province website. Congratulations, Veronica, for the first contribution – you write so well as I know so well! And I can congratulate you, too, Sandy , as by the time I had logged on your contribution was also there. I look forward to the following Monday contributions. Thank you, friends.
