Become a Sister
Life is abundant with blessings. And one of the greatest blessings is the opportunity to spend time in relationship with God and others in community.
We welcome young women who feel a call to Religious Life.
The Summons Dance: The International RNDMs Mission in Canada
To mark July 26, the date when many RNDM Sisters in the Canadian province made first vows, the Sisters who gathered for the Summer Learning Symposium 2024 presented this dance.
They gathered near the Celebration Maple tree, planted in 2023, at the end of our annual Assembly, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the first RNDM Sisters arriving from France.
We offer this song/dance/prayer, as an invitation to young women who may sense God calling their names, calling them to be a Sister of Our Lady of the Missions. Come join us.
Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown
In you and you in me?
The Summons – Iona Community. John Bell.

Steps in the Process
- Write a letter, or send an e-mail expressing your interest to the addresses below.
- Meet with an RNDM Sister to speak further about your desire.
- Pray with the discernment tools listed below.
Postulancy
Women who have expressed an interest and desire to enter into our RNDM way of life enter into a relationship with the Sisters that will help her discover more about God and her deeper self. This is a time to also develop a greater understanding of her motivation(s) for entering a religious missionary Congregation. This period may last from six months to two years.
Novitiate
Religious life begins with the Novitiate. During this time the novice is initiated into the challenges of a religious missionary vocation lived in Community, and the practice of the three vows according to the rule and Constitutions of the Congregation. She will be helped and guided to grow in personal relationship with God through prayer, silence, solitude, study, action for justice, and spiritual discernment.
Temporary Profession
This is a further time for formation and probation in preparation for the act of Perpetual Profession. During this time the sister continues her spiritual, theological, academic and apostolic formation learning progressively how to integrate in her life contemplation, community life, and apostolic activity. Normally at the end of six years, each sister will have the opportunity to attend a six month international programme in Davao, Philippines in preparation for perpetual profession.
At any stage, a sister may be missioned to any part of our Congregation where there is a need. Formation is ongoing. From time to time sisters will be given opportunities to participate in renewal, both within the congregation or in courses offered which suit individual needs.
