Why the Difference?

In the light of the May 11th assassination of the Al Jazeera journalist, Palestinian Christian woman Shireen Abu Aqleh, and the shocking incidents around her funeral1,

I have a question.

Why the difference?

2022 Russia invades Ukraine, ostensibly for national security reasons it says. Millions forced to flee Ukraine to become refugees in other countries. Ukraine defends itself from the Aggressor. T V shows us huge loss of life and destruction and devastation of Ukraine. We are moved. Action taken. International community comes to the aid of Ukraine, victim of aggression continuing to defend itself with the backing of the International community committed to long term support.

1948 Israel invades Palestine, ostensibly for national security reasons it says. Millions forced to flee Palestine to become refugees in other countries. Palestine defends itself from the Aggressor. TV shows us every few years the destruction and devastation of Palestine, with huge loss of life. We are moved. No action taken. International community doesn’t come to the aid of Palestine, victim of aggression. Till today Palestine attempts to defend itself, with no backing from the international community, while aggressor Israel continues to invade Palestine, with impunity, killing more Palestinians, taking more and more Palestinian land.

How come? Justice for all.

Thank you Barbara for making the observations and posing the rhetorical questions, which help me/us be more conscious of one of our world’s most enduring conflicts, in light of a more recent one. Thanks also for the link to the Guardian article, about Shireen Abu Aqleh’s funeral.

I too have the same questions as I see more and more Israel crimes on the front page. Yet when one criticizes them you are labeled anti-Semitic
