Almond Puff

- 1 ungreased baking sheet
- 1 medium saucepan
Ingredients
First Layer
- 1/2 cup soft margarine
- 1 cup flour
- 2 tbsp water
Second Layer
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 3 eggs
Glaze
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp soft margarine
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1-2 tbsp warm water
- 1/2 - 1 cup roasted, slivered or chopped almonds
Instructions
- First Layer: Cut ½ cup margarine in 1 cup of flour. Sprinkle 2 tbsp. of water over it.
- Mix with fork, round into a ball and divide in half.
- Place on ungreased baking sheet and pat each half into a strip 12" x 3".
- Second Layer: Beat eggs until smooth. Set aside.
- In medium saucepan, heat ½ cup margarine and 1 cup water to rolling boil.
- Remove and quickly stir in extract and 1 cup of flour. Stir vigorously over low heat till mixture forms a ball (about 1 minute). Remove from heat.
- Beat in eggs until smooth.
- Divide in half and spread evenly over both strips, covering completely.
- Bake at 350 F for 60 minutes.
- Cool and glaze. Sprinkle with chopped and toasted almonds.
