This recipe was the one Claire’s mother use to make. Claire says it is easy to make. We, in Regina, know from St. Patrick’s Day that it tastes very good! Thanks to Claire and her mom.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lbs beef stew meat cut in 1”cubes
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 stick celery, chopped
  • 2 medium potatoes, cubed
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 parsnip, cubed
  • 1/2 turnip, cubed
  • Water as needed
  • 1/2 can canned tomatoes (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Combine flour, salt, ginger, and pepper. Coat the meat cubes with this mixture.
  • In a large pot, heat the oil and brown the meat cubes on all sides.
  • Add the chopped onions and celery, and add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer over low heat for 1 hour, stirring frequently.
  • Add the vegetables and potatoes. Simmer for 1 hour stirring frequently.
  • You may want to add a bit more water, and/or 1/2 can of canned tomatoes
